#TG channel rules

File history and purpose

This is a list of some of the channel rules. The rules include, but are not limited to, the ones stated here. This list may be expanded later. The golden rule is to behave yourself. If you do, you will be fine. (Note that the ops and not you decide what "behaving yourself" is.)

Failure to comply with these simple rules will result in a five-minute ban unless something else is specified in the rule. Repeated offence will result in a quite long or permanent ban.

Note that there is no rule against UTF-8 anymore, as all major clients support UTF-8 in their latest version. See the UTF-8 crash course for more information.

Don't ask about tickets

Do not ask for / sell tickets in the channel. Use the waiting list at geekevents.org like everyone else. If you have extra tickets, sell them back to GeekEvents!

Check the webpage

Please check the webpage www.gathering.org before you ask any questions regarding The Gathering. Everything we know about this years event is written there.

As soon as all the technicalities like the network, the internet, the compos etc. are decided, the info will be put on the web. Want info really fast? The web has it first. Please check the webpage often, and make sure your questions are not answered there before asking in the channel.

Do not MSG the ops with questions

The ops and voiced people work hard to answer your questions, but they are not super human. Please stick to the channel and state your questions there, unless you are specifically told to do othervise. That way everyone else can see the answer, and might not need to ask the same question again, and the ops can concentrate on doing their job.

No colours, bold, underline, etc.

Colours and bold/underline are ugly on IRC, and therefore not allowed. If you need to emphasize a word, use _underscores_ or *asterisks*. And yes, that includes your quit message.

No caps

STUFF WRITTEN IS CAPS IS ANNOYING! Shouting is considered rude.

Write readable

Write Norwegian (bokmål or nynorsk will do) or English. Refrain from using SMS-language, dialect, excessive special characters, l33tspeak or other fanciness. We do not expect everybody to be able to write perfect Norwegian (or English), but at least make an attempt.

No public away/back

This page explains our reasons pretty well.

No flooding

Really, do we need to say this?

Do not paste crap in the channel

Nobody cares how big your CPU and hard drive is, or what song you are playing right now. And if they care, you can tell them in an MSG. Just don't pollute the channel with it.

No triggers

Anyone writing crap like "!seen", "!lastspoke" or "!tg" in the channel will be kicked. So will anyone running scripts which reply to such triggers.

No autorejoin

Turn autorejoining off. If you get kicked and autorejoin, you will be temporarily banned.

No channel CTCPs

Do NOT send CTCPs to the entire channel.

No banevasions

If you sneak back into the channel by changing your hostmask whilst banned, you will get a new and longer ban.

No warez

Trading or other warez-related talk is not allowed in the channel. Norwegian law does not exclude the Internet. Even legal sharing should be done elsewhere.

No annoying URLs

Pasting annoying URLs will result in a kick. The ops decide if the URL is annoying or not, and use common sense while deciding. Just use your head, and you'll be fine. Useful URLs are naturally allowed.

No advertising

No, we do not want to join #anotherlamechannel or buy your old motherboard. So don't ask.

Ask to ask? Please don't, just ask.

Asking for permission to ask a question, or querying if staff/organizers/chiefs/whatnot are on the channel, before getting to the point and asking your question, is simply a waste of time. As long as you abide by the other rules here, please just state your question. If no one is present to answer right now, it is likely someone will inquire further on your behalf.

No bots

We run all the bots in the channel. You are not allowed to let your bot join the channel without explicit permission from Tech:Server.

Listen to the OPs

If an op tells you to stop doing something, obey. It does not matter whether it is on this list or not.
